Hwaseong Fortress

Hwaseong Fortress (1-2 Jangan-dong, Paldal-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi-do) — Hwaseong Fortress or Suwon Hwaseong is a fortification surrounding the center of Suwon, the provincial capital of Gyeonggi-do, in South Korea. It was built from 1794 to 1796 by King Jeongjo of the Joseon dynasty to house and honor the remains of his father, Prince Sado. The fortress wall was built using Seokjae and Jeondol (bricks) and the holes between the bricks are just big enough to fire guns, arrows, or long spears through in case of an attack.
Admission: 1,000 Won (adult) 700 Won (teenagers), 500 Won (children ages 7 years and up). Free for seniors, children below 7 years old and all residents of Suwon. Free admission for all during last Wednesday of the month (culture day).
